My Perfect Classroom
Let's be honest, as perspective teachers we all have that dream classroom in our minds. We think up ideas as to what it will look like the first day of our new job. There will be a blackboard with a colorful boarder plastered on every edge of its surface. A giant notepad easel will rest next to the board with nothing other than that silly, giant pointer finger pointer. Of course there has to be the "reading nook" complete with bean bag chairs, pillows and that legendary puzzle piece carpet. The shelves surrounding it will be jam packed with children's books (99% of which were ones you enjoyed as a kid yourself). The room will be plastered with color and cork boards displaying the children's work. Little cubbies line the entrance, each containing a brass hook for tiny jackets and cartoon character backpacks and fun rectangular strips of paper with the student's names printed in "teacher handwriting." I hope to bring a "thinking chair," into the room (similar to the one from blues clues). The students can use it to spark their own ideas and make thinking and reading fun. Continuing from the same idea, a mailbox will be placed next to the teachers chair in the circle time area from which the lesson or topic of the day will be pulled as a note from someone fun. And last but not least, how could you forget the most exciting part of being a new teacher, your very own desk complete with a plaque inscribed with your name. A file cabinet sits to the right of that in which all your lesson plans and activities are neatly organized into sectioned files. The list goes on but one thing is absolute, wherever my future classroom is, I will never stop dreaming up ways to make it more and more perfect for my students.
